Leica DM6 LIBS

Leica Microsystems

The DM6 microscope with LIBS module, or Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, is an analytical method in the field of spectroscopy. This technique uses a high-power laser pulse to induce a short-lived plasma cloud on the sample surface. During this process, there is a step increase in temperature and pressure, causing light to be emitted from the sample. The spectrum of this light is then analyzed to identify and quantify the chemical elements in the sample. LIBS is used in a wide range of applications including mineral analysis, industrial monitoring, chemical detection and many other areas. This method is characterized by its speed, simplicity and ability to analyze a variety of materials.
